Sociology Project

The sociology project was about going around San Diego and act out of the norm around people to see their reactions. Me and my group decided to ask a random person to tie our shoes and instead of using money to pay we used jewelry and a cell phone. During these acts it was interesting to see the peoples faces and reactions.

We went to In and Out and one of my group members asked a guy to tie her shoe. He reacted in a weird way and got shy. He was staring at her and decided to tie her shoe. The people around us just stared at us and thought we were weird.

We went to Subway and one of my group members decided to order subway. As she got at the cashier she decided to pay with her necklace or her cell phone. But the cashier didn't want any of them, he wanted something better.

Resource Management Project

This project was about us choosing an issue that we were interested in learning and helping a place in the world with the issue. The resource that my partner and I chose is clean water in Nairobi, Kenya. We want to help Kenya so that they can improve their water supply. The water in Kenya is not clean for the people to drink. Some of the water they drink is from the ground or from rivers which can be infected with many diseases. Many of the diseases are deadly and many people die from them every year. A common disease that many children are dying from every year is water-bone disease. A law needs to be made so that it will help them have cleaner fresh water and not have dirty water to drink. This is important because many people are dying and their needs to be a difference. What is needed in order to make a difference is to make a law and to build wells around villages. The government should also make a building to clean the water and give it to people in water bottles. Although this doesn’t affect us we should help them and care for them so that they can drink clean water just like us. We should all be equal and help each other.

Dear Mr. Thamsanqa Dennis Mseleku,

My name is Xochitl Lopez and my partner is Jocelyn Hernandez. We both are students from High Tech High International and it is located in San Diego, California. We both want Kenya to change the water sanitation in Nairobi so that people will stop suffering by drinking dirty water.

Many people in Kenya don’t have clean water to drink. This is bad because drinking unhealthy water full of bacteria and viruses cause people get sick. Some diseases that are found in the dirty water are diarrhea, cholera, and malaria. Water Bourne diseases are deadly and they have killed many people. Flies and other disease-carrying insects are drawn to unsanitary water sites and they infect the water with the diseases that they carry. Only 61 percent of the rural population has access to an improved drinking water source and everyone deserves to have a good water source. Dirty water kills 5,000 children a day. That is a lot of children dying from something that needs to be resolved.

I request for you to make a change in U.S. policies toward Kenya so that people don’t have to drink disgusting dirty water that makes them sick. Please help your country by changing the water sanitation and the people in Kenya will be happy and healthy. The government should help by building wells and build a place to have clean water. Helping Kenya will help us see the improvement in the water sanitation and see the people in Nairobi drink cleaner fresh, water.

Friday Reflection

In our journal's, we were assigned to write a reflection on the water crisis we had at school and about the field trip we went to on Friday at the refugee camps

What struck me the most about the water shut off we had at school was that we couldn't use the bathroom so we needed to walk a long way in order to go to the bathroom. I couldn't imagine to hold it for a long time. But mostly it made me think of all the people in the world who don't have water to drink or even use like take a shower or to wash their clothes. It also made me think of other schools around the world that might not have bathrooms to use and we do. It made me feel sad and scared. I got a little scared because I thought that one day we will all run out of water and wouldn't have anything to drink. We nee to take care of our water more.

What struck me on the field trip to the refugee camp was to see how how many people are suffering from hunger and horrible diseases. Also that on every checkpoint where families cross, the guards will take anything they care about like their children and food. That was really sad to hear, imagine yourself crossing the checkpoint and they take your family away from you. Another thing was how 8 year old kids will carry with them like 3 - 5 gallons of water and walk for 8 miles or where they live.

The Doctors With Out Borders did a great job structuring the refugee camp. I think they did a great structure that I don't know what they should change. But maybe they should change the bathrooms and make them more secured. They should be more secured so that woman won't get raped while their doing the bathroom. They should have more security around the refugee camps with guards that are trust worthy and won't hurt or harm the women in the camps.

1. 17 and older should have the right to drive
2. We should all have equal rights
3. 17 and older should have the right to go clubbing
4. 16 and older should have the right to drink alcohol
5. Everyone must finish their education till high school

Why Vote?

My response to this article was that if people don't want to vote then they don't have to vote. It is sad that people are being fined just for not voting. We should all have the freedom if we want to vote or not. It shouldn't be mandatory to vote. Voting is really important but if they don't want to then they don't have to.

I didn't understand this reading at all. It was really confusing and it had many big words that I didn't know. I tried to understad it but I couldn't so I just finished reading it.
